About Us

Take A Veteran/Active Duty Fishing For A Day

Take A Soldier Fishing, Portland Chapter, held its first event in May of 2010, at Henry Hagg Lake, Scoggins Park, near Forest Grove Oregon.  We have held an event at Henry Hagg Lake every year since except for one.

For our firts two years, we parternered with Take A Soldier Fishing National which operated out of Texas.  During our third year 2012, we started our own chapter.  In April 2014, we received our own 501c3 designation letter and became a separate operating entity with our own EIN (46-3187150).

Another chapter in Oregon was formed in Eugene area to operate an event at Odell Lake beginning in  July 2012.

Additionally, we worked with Diamond 'N' Vets out of Roseburg to hold an event at Diamond Lake Resort mid June of 2013.  Dianmond 'N' Vets presently  operates independently.

In 2014, the Take A Soldier Fishing National ceased to operate and the Portland Chapter continued to maintain the Facebook Page and the Take A Soldier Fishing website and registration forms.

Take A Soldier Fishing, Portland Chapter, was conceived as an outreach program through Hillsdale Community Church.  Hillsdale Community Church continues to provide volunteer support for our events.  The Portland Chapter of TASF was formed from grants from the Hillsdale Community Church Foundation, Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Jack and Dian Kinzey-Morby, and other private donations.

Our goal is to provide low cost or free fishing events honoring our active duty military and veterans from any branch of the service.

We serve veterans with various disabilities, veterans supported by the VA Housing Programs, and many others from all walks of life.

For some veterans, our event is the only outdoor recreational activity that they will receive the entire year!

All veterans and active duty military are welcome to participate in our events.  We do our best to provide accomodations for those who need them.

Volunteers with boats and other expert fisher persons provide all fishing equipment, bait, and snacks.  Fishing from a boat or from the bank is available at most events.  Some events also permit immediate family members to participate.

All of our events our alcohol and drug free.

We have no paid employees.  Everyone is a vounteer, including board members, who have a passion to recognize our veterans and active duty military for their sacrificies.

100% of contributions to TASF, Portland or Eugene Chapters are used to support day fishing events in Oregon.
